Chief Ron Parker says that while it is apparent that traffic has increased on Highway 290 and other major roadways, local hotels have reported major increases in business with most, if not all, rooms now booked and advising there are no vacancies.

Parker says with this increase in traffic and occupancies, as well as business increasing for local gas stations, convenience stores, grocery stores, etc., comes the potential for criminals to take advantage of the situation.

Parker says the department has increased patrols and have extra “eyes” on the local hotspots. Some of those are in unmarked vehicles and in plain clothes, and “will not tolerate any criminal activity or those taking advantage of the situation”.

Parker goes on to say, “law enforcement will also be monitoring traffic flow with increased traffic, and preparing to address any impact from the storm itself if necessary”.

Local emergency responders say they will be ready to rescue and evacuate citizens if significant rainfall causes flooding, and will assist in any major power outages.

The police department is working closely with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for any situations that may develop.
