BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER FINAL ADOPTION OF 2020 TAX RATE

The Burton City Council will hear any public comments before approving final adoption of the tax rate for the new fiscal year at its teleconference meeting Tuesday.

Following a public hearing, the council will vote to adopt a rate of 50 cents per $100 valuation, unchanged from last year’s tax rate.

The allocation of the rate is slightly different from last year’s; the new rate consists of 10.25 cents for maintenance and operations (M&O) and 39.75 cents for debt service (I&S), while the previous rate was made up of 10 cents for M&O and 40 cents for I&S.

Also in session Tuesday, the council will consider several items all related to the city’s application process for the General Land Office’s (GLO) Community Development Block Grant – Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) program.  Councilmembers will look to pass a resolution authorizing a grant application to the GLO, adopt a citizen participation plan policy for the grant programs, approve a financial management policy, and adopt a procurement policy and procedures.

The council will also consider:

  • Approval of the 2019-20 Fiscal Year audit as presented by Medack and Oltmann, LLP.
  • The hiring of Schneider Consulting Services to provide code compliance services.
  • Choosing incumbent candidates for election to the Texas Municipal League Intergovernmental Risk Pool Board of Trustees and authorize and direct the mayor of Burton to execute the official ballot.

The council will meet Tuesday afternoon at 5:30 p.m.  Due to lack of space at Burton City Hall, the meeting will only be open to the public through conference call.  The call-in information is available below.
