CITY OF BRENHAM SPLASH PAD CLOSING DOWN FOR 2020 ON WEDNESDAY
With the arrival of fall comes the end of the season for one of Brenham’s newest summer attractions.
The splash pad at Henderson Park will close down for the rest of the year on Wednesday. The new water feature, which first opened at the park in June, will reopen in April 2021.
Community Services Specialist Crystal Locke said so far, the splash pad has been well received by the community.
Some of the most requested amenities for the splash pad include a closer restroom, additional seating, and extra shade. A new shade canopy is planned to be installed in February or March, using a $50,000 grant from the H-E-B Tournament of Champions Charitable Trust.
To better gather feedback from the public on what it wants for the next year of the splash pad, the city has put out a survey asking visitors about their experience this year and what they would like in the future. Public Works Director Dane Rau said responses will be used to gauge interest for proposed splash pad improvements.
The Brenham Community Development Corporation (BCDC) has set aside another $250,000 for splash pad upgrades in its 2020-21 budget. The funding is solely dedicated to Brenham Parks and Recreation projects using local sales tax dollars.
Rau anticipates potential splash pad improvements will be discussed at the October meeting of the Brenham Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. He intends for whatever enhancements that are decided upon to be completed before the splash pad’s reopening.
The survey can be taken through the link available here. The survey is currently open through the end of September, but may be extended to allow for additional feedback before the next Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting.
