BRENHAM, BURTON ISD BOTH REPORTING FEWER REMOTE STUDENTS
As the school year progresses for Brenham and Burton ISDs, students that had been taking classes remotely are making the switch to in-person learning.
Both school districts are reporting an increase in students participating in face-to-face instruction from the beginning of the school year.
For Brenham ISD, according to numbers provided by Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin, 87 percent of the 4,897 students enrolled in the district are now taking classes in person, while 13 percent are still learning remotely. That amounts to approximately 4,260 in-person students and 637 remote students.
At the beginning of the year, Brenham ISD reported 68 percent of students—about 3,330—were face-to-face and 32 percent of students—roughly 1,567—were remote.
Meanwhile in Burton ISD, according to Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy, only 27 students—roughly 5.57 percent—of the 485 students in the district are still taking classes remotely, while 458—about 94.43 percent—are learning in person. The district has 15 remote learners in Pre-K through 6th grade, and 12 remote students in grades 7-12.
The district reported a total of 102 remote learners heading into the new school year, about 21 percent of the student body. That total consisted of 68 remote students at the elementary school and 34 at the high school.
Most students who changed from remote to in-person instruction did so at the end of the first six-week grading period, which was September 25th for both Brenham and Burton ISDs. The end of the second six weeks is October 30th.
