WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO CONSIDER ACCEPTING ELECTION GRANT

Washington County Commissioners will potentially accept a grant to be used for the upcoming election in November at their meeting Tuesday.

According to County Clerk Beth Rothermel, the county has been approved for a $22,842 grant from Center for Tech and Civic Life.  The non-profit organization provides funding to local election offices to ensure they have the resources to safely serve voters amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The county will receive the funding upon signage of a grant agreement by commissioners Tuesday.  Funds must be used exclusively for planning and putting safe and secure election procedures into operation.

Rothermel said grant funding has also been awarded to area counties by the organization, with $15,000 granted to Fayette County and $14,000 given to Austin County.

Also in court Tuesday, commissioners will consider allowing the county engineer to accept a donation from JCB Ranch Management, LLC for road improvements to a section of Mertins Creek Lane in Precinct One.  They will also potentially authorize the county engineer to purchase a new tractor and a new 10-foot wing shredder through state cooperative purchasing.

The court will also look to approve a proclamation declaring October 4-10 as National 4-H Week in Washington County.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse Annex.
