NAVASOTA MAN CRITICALLY INJURED IN TRAIN VS. PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT
A Navasota man is in critical condition following a train versus pedestrian accident late Tuesday night in Navasota.
Local police and firefighters responded to the scene around 10:30 p.m.
The victim was identified as 71-year-old Blanch Steward, who authorities say is visually impaired and lives near the railroad tracks. Steward is believed to have left his home and accidentally wandered onto the tracks.
The train was halted for several hours, as it disconnected at Blackshear Street when it came to a complete stop.
Several railroad crossings were blocked in the hours following the accident, but all crossings are now open.
