AUSTIN CO. AGENCIES HOLD ACTIVE SHOOTER TRAINING DRILL

  

Emergency responders from within Austin County participated in a mass casualty active shooter training drill Thursday morning at Bellville High School.

Agencies who took part in the training exercise included Austin County EMS, the Bellville Volunteer Fire Department, Sealy ISD Police, the Austin County Sheriff’s Office, the Bellville Police Department, the Bellville Medical Center ER, and the Austin County Special Response Team, which is comprised of specially trained officers from multiple law enforcement agencies from within and outside of Austin County.

Bellville Police Chief Jason Smalley said the training “provided emergency responders a fantastic opportunity to fine tune their skills,” so that they are “better prepared in the event of a real scenario of this magnitude.”

Smalley said local responders are appreciative of all of those who provided them with this training opportunity, and are hoping they can train more frequently while involving and utilizing other entities within Austin County.

According to Smalley, the last mass casualty incident training drill that was conducted took place at Bellville High School in 2010.
