A historic steam engine will begin its 2021 tour next month, and it will have a few stops in the area along its route.

Union Pacific’s Big Boy No. 4014, the world’s only operating Big Boy locomotive, will leave Cheyenne, Wyoming on Thursday, August 5th, travelling through several states before making its way to Texas.

Once in the Lone Star State, the train will travel southeast through several cities before arriving in Hearne on Sunday, August 15th.  It will depart on Monday, August 16th for a stop in Navasota, arriving at 10:25 a.m.  The engine will stop at the intersection of McAlpine Street and Railroad Street until 11:15 a.m.

After leaving Navasota, the train will head to Hempstead, stopping at the Wilkins Street crossing at 11:55 a.m. and leaving at 12:40 p.m.  It will then travel to Houston, where it will be on display Tuesday before heading through East Texas and eventually Louisiana.

This is the locomotive’s first tour since it was restored for 2019’s “Great Race” tours celebrating the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad’s completion.
