WASHINGTON CO. REPORTS 100TH DEATH FROM COVID-19
Washington County has reported its 100th death attributed to COVID-19.
The county reported its first death from the virus on April 3, 2020, just over a week after it confirmed its first COVID-19 case on March 25, 2020.
The death comes as the county experiences an uptick in positive cases. According to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), the county had an estimated 166 active cases as of Friday, compared to 107 cases on Friday, July 30th.
As of Friday, Trauma Service Area N, the hospital region that includes Washington County, had 55 hospital beds, three intensive care unit beds and 84 ventilators available. A total of 85 lab-confirmed COVID-19 patients were hospitalized in the region out of a total of 400 hospitalizations.
DSHS reports that out of 30,940 people 12 years and older in Washington County, 13,969 residents—or 45.15 percent—are fully vaccinated. Meanwhile, 74.81 percent of county residents 65 and older are fully vaccinated.
