BACK TO SCHOOL FOR BRENHAM, BURTON ISDs
Thousands of Washington County students return to class today (Wednesday).
Brenham and Burton ISDs welcome their students back today for full, on-campus instruction. Opening enrollment at Brenham ISD campuses is projected at 4,856 students, while 520 students are expected at Burton ISD schools.
Brenham ISD Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin said the school district is focusing on providing the tools that teachers need to engage students in the learning process.
Dr. Chaplin said Brenham ISD has restructured its counseling department and expanded its STEAM program to all elementary and middle school students. In the future, the district is looking to expand its Career and Technical Education partnership with Blinn College, and is seeking to address facility needs through facility and demography studies.
Burton ISD Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy said the district is eager to return to a fully in-person setting.
Burton students can expect several facility upgrades upon their return, as Burton ISD installed new bathrooms in three pre-k and kindergarten classrooms, a new floor in the band portable building and a new walk-in freezer in the cafeteria. The district also performed other various floor repairs, room renovations and routine maintenance.
Neither of the school districts will require masks, per Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order that prohibits school districts from enforcing mask mandates. Both districts released their back-to-school plans last week, and they can be seen here.
