BRENHAM ISD ASSISTANT SUPT. TO ACT AS INTERIM BRENHAM HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

Brenham High School’s interim principal will come from Brenham ISD’s current administration.
In a press release this (Friday) afternoon, Brenham ISD announced that Brandi Hendrix will assume a dual role of acting as the interim principal while continuing to serve as the district’s assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. Hendrix will begin her new role on September 7th.
Prior to joining Brenham ISD in May 2020, Hendrix served three years as the principal of Montgomery High School. She has 20 years of experience in education, 16 of those in Montgomery ISD.
This comes after current Brenham High School Principal Joseph Chandler informed the district on Monday that he will be taking a new position as a school support officer in Houston ISD. His last day with Brenham ISD will be September 10th.
Brenham ISD said it has started the process of identifying its next high school principal, and that it is “committed to continuing the search process until we get the right person to lead Brenham High School.”
Is this the same person who has my child watching CNN during class? I almost threw up when my child said they have to watch that in the mornings. I told her to close her eyes and ears. We don’t watch fake news.
Maybe outsiders in leadership roles are EXACTLY what this community needs. With 70 percent economically disadvantaged now in our schools, it looks like the BIB’s in administration have run BISD into the ground. It is time for radical CHANGE, so this great educational institution can become great again. I welcome the energy and passion that Dr. Chaplin brings to BISD. If you are sitting around complaining and not taking an ACTIVE and ENGAGING role to work towards solutions, then you are part of the problem. I wish the new administration the best of luck, and I will be keeping them in my prayers so they can lead BISD to excellence once again.
So according to the article Ms. Hendrix will assume the dual role of interim principal and assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction. Seems to me she’s taking on two jobs at one time. How is that even possible unless of course her current job is not a full-time job. Being principal at the high school IS a full-time job.
Of all the places to allow an outsider….
WHY ALLOW IT IN THE DIRECT DAY TO DAY LIVES OF OUR CHILDREN?? I’m not “from” Brenham- altho I graduated from here, married into a native family,
and brought kids into this tight knit “home” of ours-
Ive been here nearly 40 yrs!! Put it like this….been here long enough to remember Ms. Kay Domel long before she was the Ms. Domel she is today….from many years ago!!! Why in the world would someone with her credentials, local ties, and genuine love for not only our community, but our children & their education- THE FUTURE OF BRENHAM….not be pretty much a shoo-in for a position such as this! Is there anyone who can answer to this?? I don’t even know that she has interest; if it has already been determined she has none- then I do apologize for speaking out- I must have missed that memo! However…I can’t think of much good that can come of leaders of our children living or coming from another area…when one or more of our own are shinning rite in the front line!! Is it personal? Political? Any response would be appreciated and would ease many troubled confused minds…so, I’ll wait!
Ridiculously confused & waiting-
Parent of 4 BISD STUDENTS-
(past & present)
Thank you!
Well sheila I could be wrong but a slower student needing a slower pace to finish his or her work should not be in a special needs class. Now I worked at the Brenham supported living center those students might need special education but a normal child that might need a little help might fill embarrassed! Because many times the world only concerned with how the special needs child feels. What do you think sense you are a educator?
There is truly only one person who possesses the necessary experience and leadership skills to fill that role and her name is Kay Domel. She was the visionary for BISD’s Pride Academy, a successful alternative educational program that she developed for students at risk of dropping out and who required a creative and supportive approach to earn course credit required to graduate. Under her direction, Pride Academy was an inspirational anomaly that in her words, “turned the punitive into a positive”. Kay has been deeply involved and passionately committed to the Brenham community for the last thirty five years and has a proven track record supporting, encouraging and growing the faculty and staff she serves with.
I feel like the community should be aware… Mrs. Hendrix and the superintendent are currently responsible for the turmoil plaguing the district. They have spent a substantial amount of taxpayer money on consulting firms, speakers from SolutionTree, an advising group, and more to fix our district to THEIR “vision.” These people, not from here, not invested in our community, moved all the counselors and assistant principals, creating problems across the district. They have forced our special needs students in to general education classes without the proper staff, training, or resources. This is of questionable legality, and a large reason why a number of BISD’s special education staff left over the summer. I’ve now seen an endless carousel of bureaucrats through my campus and through this district over the last 20 years, and I pray that the school board and the community wise up to what is going on before it is too late.
The school board hired them, the elected leaders chose these individuals and now the students are paying the price. It is truly disgusting what is going on and how many teachers left over the summer. Something truly stinks and parents need to wise up and start speaking up!!!
Based on some of the TEA guidance, it appears as though Brenham may have been skirting the law regarding “least restrictive environment” for some time now. Kids in SPED need / deserve to be mainstreamed as much as possible. I don’t blame the admin for that. For the lack of training, staff, and resource, ABSOLUTELY. But it is 0% the fault of the kids.
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and High School Principal must be pretty easy jobs if you can do both.
That was very tongue in cheek. I know these are are very high-stress full-time jobs.
My point is they better find someone quickly.
Losing Chandler was a blow to the district.
