LOCAL PRACTITIONER, MEDICAL DIRECTOR DR. ROBERT STARK DIES

A longtime practitioner in Brenham and the medical director of Washington County has died.
Dr. Robert Stark died Sunday afternoon, after going into cardiac arrest on Saturday. He was 65 years old.
Dr. Stark became a Texas Medical Board-licensed practitioner in 1983, and started a private practice in Brenham on North Park Street in 1985. He was appointed by former Washington County Judge Gus Mutscher to serve as medical director along with Gary Appelt and Tom Berry. In 2018, he was appointed to serve as medical director of the Washington County Jail, where he worked until 2020.
Earlier this year, Dr. Stark received the President’s Award from the Texas Ambulance Association in recognition of his lifetime of work for the community.
Dr. Stark was also actively involved with the Graham Masonic Lodge of Brenham, and was a big supporter of Brenham athletics.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brenham Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will take place Thursday at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill.
Beth and “kids”, we were so saddened to read of Robert’s death. We are grateful for the memories made in your home, especially the 4th of July, and your support of the ministry at St. Paul. May God enfold you in his loving arms with comfort and peace.
Beth. Broke my heart when Bubba called to tell me the news. He and Bubba were the brothers I never had. Suzanne and I have you in our prayers. We’ll be in touch soon.

Robert was so good to me and Taylor. He and Beth are the best couple I’ve ever known. Working for Robert was always an adventure. He was constantly printing and copying far side jokes and sending jokes by email. I always called him “Boss”. I remember when Taylor was a baby how he put those stick on tattoos on her and always made her giggle. My heart hurts now. I know my folks were there to greet him and shake his hand.
He always had his Nikon camera with him. I remember when the team was little boys starting out with Washington County. He enjoyed taking pictures of all the boys then giving pictures of our sons to each family. He never missed a game. He loved black and white, his favorite, so did I. I still have all these pictures that he took all the way to high school. An I remember his car with the Texas Longhorn on the grill coming to pick my son up early before work and stretching him before games. Just because.. An of course John Wayne. Best dressed office in Texas. He should have been in Texas Monthly. God Bless you and your family. You were very important to a lot of young men and you will never be forgotten here in Brenham.
Robert was an outstanding physician, and I’m sure he’ll be sorely missed by many.
My deepest condolences and love to Beth and family. Many good memories at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church with Robert and Beth.
May he RIP.
