TEXAS INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION TO RETURN TO WASHINGTON-ON-THE-BRAZOS
The 186th anniversary of Texas independence will soon be celebrated at the place where Texas became Texas.
The Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site will host its annual two-day living history celebration on Saturday, February 26, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, February 27, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Plans are being made for an in-person gathering, after this year’s commemoration took the form of a documentary film.
The admission-free event will feature live music, food, demonstrations and sales of traditional crafts such as blacksmithing, candle making, woodworking and quilting. The celebration will also include living history presentations, musket and cannon firings, pageantry, kids’ activities, museum exhibits and other programs.
Visitors will be able to wander among the tents of an 1836 Texas Army camp and see historical reenactments of how soldiers and their families lived in 1836.
Admission fees will be waived for the site’s attractions, including Independence Hall, the Star of the Republic Museum and the Barrington Living History Farm, during the weekend celebration. Admission to the grounds, on-site shuttles and parking will also be free.
