TEXAS INDEPENDENCE FILM AT WASHINGTON-ON-THE-BRAZOS PREMIERES WEDNESDAY
A documentary filmed at Washington-on-the-Brazos that tells the story of the Texas Declaration of Independence premieres today (Wednesday).
“Independence! A Lone Star Rises” will debut today to culminate Texas History Month, with a first showing at 10 a.m. and encore presentations at 1 and 7 p.m. The film can be watched for free on the Washington-on-the-Brazos Historical Foundation’s Facebook page, and will later be put on the Texas Historical Commission’s YouTube channel.
The film is presented by the Washington-on-the-Brazos Historical Foundation in cooperation with the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historic Site and Texas Historical Commission.
The documentary details the signing of the declaration and the creation of a new nation and government at Washington-on-the-Brazos 185 years ago. It is taking the place of a traditional Texas Independence Day celebration due to COVID-19.
The movie is directed by Gary Foreman of Native Sun Productions and features an original score by Grammy-nominated composer David Arkenstone. It was filmed with participation from Brazos County students and Texan reenactors.
