BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO RECEIVE COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE

The Brenham City Council will meet tomorrow (Wednesday) to receive an update on the city’s comprehensive plan.

City staff will bring the council up to speed on the projects included in the comprehensive plan and discuss their status.  The work session presentation will also include discussion about the most overwhelming piece of feedback about the plan, that being the need for additional housing.

The city’s comprehensive plan, developed by Kendig Keast Collaborative, was adopted in September 2019 and consists of two components: the existing city report and the future city report.  It includes five topic areas, those being land use and development, growth capacity, economic outlook, transportation and parks and recreation.  It also emphasizes how each of those topic areas contributes to a set of guiding principles such as growth and revitalization, economic essentials, housing costs and options, infrastructure and overall livability.

Also at tomorrow’s meeting, the council will hear a presentation in work session on the city’s downtown parklet manual, which contains the information needed for anyone looking to develop a parklet in downtown Brenham.  The manual includes a parklet process overview, eligibility requirements, design standards and the responsibilities of parklet sponsors.  The council will then seek to adopt the manual in regular session.

In other items, councilmembers will consider:

  • A request from the Brenham Housing Authority to adjust the zoning for the 1.2 acre property at 1003 Hasskarl Drive that currently serves as the site of the community center at Fairview Terrace. The zoning change from R-2 Mixed Residential Use to B-1 Local Business Mixed Use would allow BHA to expand the allowable uses for possible future development of the community center.
  • An agreement between the city and Fifth Asset, Inc. (DBA DebtBook) for the purchase of lease and debt accounting software application and support services.
  • A license agreement between the city and Stylecraft Builders, Inc. for parking within public right of way, along Trellis Pass, in the Vintage Farms subdivision.

The council will meet tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
