WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO RESUME DISCUSSION ON FAIR ASSOCIATION LEASE

Discussion on a lease agreement between the Washington County Fair Association and the Washington County Expo will continue on Tuesday during Washington County Commissioners Court.

The agreement lays out the rental rate schedule and other guidelines for the use of Expo facilities during the county fair.  It was tabled at the court’s meeting on April 5th to allow the county and the Fair Association more time to negotiate the insurance section of the agreement.

When the agreement was previously discussed, the county said it wished to list the Fair Association as co-insured or add an indemnity clause.  The Fair Association, however, wanted to avoid taking on the county’s liability and exposure, instead seeking its own liability separate from the county.

If passed, the agreement would begin retroactively on January 1st and end on December 31, 2046, renewing five times every five years.  The annual rate for the 2022-26 term would be $40,000, going up to $54,000 by the 2042-46 term.  Tenant lease fees would be paid quarterly.

In other items Tuesday, commissioners will:

  • Potentially purchase a vehicle and aftermarket upfitting for the Precinct 2 Constable’s Office.
  • Consider discarding or salvaging county property that was damaged during Winter Storm Uri at the Expo.
  • Canvass votes for the constitutional amendment election on May 7th.
  • Act on a subdivision variance request for a land division fronting Dead End Lane in Precinct 4.
  • Hold a workshop to discuss the Texas County and District Retirement System.
  • Hear reports from the sheriff’s office, E-911, EMS, Information Technology and the Veterans Service Officer.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
