The owners of “The Yard” in Brenham have put the popular family-friendly business up for sale.

Owners, Leland and Trisha Hartstack, started the business back on Labor Day weekend of 2019.

The baseball themed venue allowed local youth to play whiffle ball, or “Yard Ball” as it was referred to, while the parents could sit back and relax.

During their time, the Hartstacks saw the business grow from serving ballpark favorites like hot dogs, popcorn, and nachos to adding pizzas to the menu as well.

Trisha Hartstack tells KWHI that the decision to sell has been in the works since the end of last year.  The biggest factor in their decision to sell was wanting to spend more time with family.

Trisha works full time as nurse in the cardiac unit at Memorial Hermann in Houston, while her husband, Leland, had to quit his day job to operate “The Yard” full time, because of the business growing so fast. He is also wanting to pursue other business interests including a return to coaching.

On Sunday night, at 6:30pm, they are doing a final champagne toast. Family, friends, current and former employees, and customers are invited to attend. The Hartstacks wanted to show their gratitude for the support they have received.

The Hartstacks would love for the business to remain “The Yard”, because they believe in the concept.  However, Trisha said they understand that it will be up to the new owners to make that decision.

While The Yard will be closing, their neighbor, L.J.’s BBQ will remain open normal hours.  Trisha said L.J.’s signed a multi-year lease with the Hartstacks, and whoever, ends up buying “The Yard” will also become their new landlord.

  2. Maybe the County Commissioners and City Council should plan a “phase-in” of property taxes for prospective buyers of the business. I’m sure that if no property taxes were owed for 5 years, and 10% for the next 5 years, and incrementally raise it 5% every 5 years, somebody would quickly purchase the business and start hiring to help the Brenham economy…
