BURTON TO HAVE CONTESTED ELECTION FOR MAYOR, COUNCIL

The Burton City Council will have two contested races in the May 6th election, including for mayor.

The candidates who have filed for mayor are David Zajicek and Karen Buck.

Zajicek formerly served as mayor starting in May 2017 and continuing until his resignation in March 2022

Buck formerly was the pastor at Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville and has served as an intentional interim pastor at ELCA churches in Washington, Fayette, Waller and Harris counties.

Another race will be between Jeff Eckhardt and Peter Horn for council position #3.

Eckhardt was first elected to the council in May 2016 and served for four years.  He was appointed to the council in June 2022 after Jason Schoenvogel chose not to seek re-election.

Horn, a businessman and member of Burton’s beautification committee, was previously considered for appointment as Burton mayor after Zajicek’s resignation, but he ultimately withdrew his name from consideration.

The position #1 and #4 seats on the council will be unopposed, those belonging to Nathan Kalkhake and Paul McLaughlin, respectively.

Friday marked the deadline for candidates to announce their intent to run in the spring election.  Early voting will be held from April 24th to May 2nd
