Around 1:45 p.m., the Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department and Brenham Fire Department were called out along with Washington County EMS for a water rescue on North Meyersville Road at New Year Creek.  Units learned that a vehicle had driven around a barricade in the road and was swept into the creek.

After arriving on scene, a firefighter entered the creek after hearing the victim call out that she was stuck on an object.  The firefighter cut her free from vines and provided her a personal flotation device.  They then found a tree to hold on to until an EMS boat arrived to transport them back to safety.

The rescue was discussed during today’s Washington County Commissioners meeting, which coincidentally had the reading of a proclamation recognizing Flood Awareness Week May 22-26.  The court reminded the public to never drive around a barricade or through high water, as they do not know how deep the water is.  They also thanked public safety officials for their quick response in saving the resident.
