JUDGE EDDIE HARRISON JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION THIS SATURDAY

Washington County residents are invited to a day of celebration and fun this weekend at the Annual Judge Eddie E. Harrison Juneteenth Heritage Celebration.

The celebration is going to be this Saturday from 10am-4:30pm at the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Historical Park.

The theme for this year’s event is “Celebrating the Legacy of the Black Cowboy.”

Guest speakers will be Rev. Fred Marshall of the Independent Missionary Baptist Church in Brenham, and Larry Callies of the Black Cowboy Museum.

Exhibits include Mance Lipscomb, Johnnie Swearingen’s paintings, and the Black Cowboy Museum’s Cowboy Camp.

There will also be presentations of cowboy artifacts and skills, bands, food vendors, a genealogy workshop, and a Frontier Era baseball game.

The celebration is being given by the Texas Historical Commission, the Washington-on-the-Brazos Historical Foundation, and the Texas Ten Historical Explorers.

It was named in honor of Judge Eddie E. Harrison, who passed away in November of 2020.  He was a retired colonel in the U.S. Army, and a former longtime City of Brenham Municipal Court Judge.

Harrison was also a key member in creating the annual Juneteenth Celebration at Washington-on-the-Brazos back in 2017.
