A lifelong Washington County resident has announced her candidacy for Precinct 1 County Commissioner.

Misti Hartstack Corn will run as a Republican in the March 5, 2024 primary election.  Corn is a program director at Texas A&M University and the proprietor of a small business, The Mason Jar Mama.

Corn says much of her career has been spent in an environment where she is responsible for taxpayer money, so she understands the importance and necessity of being a good steward of that funding and educating the public about where their tax dollars go.

Corn is a 1993 graduate of Brenham High School and a 2007 graduate of Sam Houston State University.  In 2015, she received her master’s degree from Abilene Christian University.

Before her time at Texas A&M, Corn spent time working for Blinn College and Brenham Head Start.  At Texas A&M, Corn leads the university’s educator certification program and has served as president of the Texas Association of Certification Officers.

Corn’s motivation is to protect the heritage of Washington County as it grows and faces new challenges.  She says she is focused on communication, collaboration, transparency and accountability.

Corn lives in Old Washington with her husband, Josh.  Her family includes two sons and three dogs.

Current Precinct 1 Commissioner Don Koester has not announced whether he intends to seek re-election next year.  Filing for a spot on the primary ballot opens on November 11th.
