BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD TO VOTE ON BUDGET & TAX RATE, POTENTIALLY SELECT SUPT. SEARCH FIRM

The Brenham School Board will look to formally adopt a budget and tax rate and choose a firm to conduct the search for a new superintendent at its meeting Monday.

Currently, Brenham ISD is facing a $4.5 million deficit in the coming year’s budget.  The tax rate proposed by trustees is $0.7683 per $100, with $0.6883 coming from maintenance and operations and $0.08 for interest and sinking.  The rate is lower than the one adopted last year at $0.9346, but higher property values will lead to increased property tax revenue.

Adoption of the budget and tax rate will come after a public hearing.

Other items will include a presentation from Texans for Excellence in Education, an organization created as an alternative to the Texas Association of School Boards.  There will also be a presentation on Brenham ISD website transparency and information on Faith Mission’s SMART CARE program.  The consent agenda includes the approval of an interlocal agreement with the City of Brenham for school resource officer services.

Trustees will meet in executive session before re-opening open session to potentially approve a firm to lead the superintendent search.  Current Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin plans to retire at the end of December.

The board will meet Monday at 6 p.m. in rooms 111 and 113 at Brenham High School.  The meeting will be livestreamed on Brenham ISD’s YouTube channel.
