COMMUNITY GRANTS TO SUPPORT PROJECTS IN LA GRANGE, FAYETTEVILLE
Two recent grants will benefit organizations in Fayette County.
The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) and Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative awarded a $25,000 grant to the Fayetteville Community Center Group. The grant, along with over $2 million in matching funds from the nonprofit, will pay for the first phase of construction for a new arts and cultural center in Fayetteville.
The project is rebuilding two historic buildings on Fayetteville’s town square to provide space for arts instruction, performances and meeting rooms for community and civic groups. The second phase of the project will add a 150-seat theater and catering kitchen.
Meanwhile, the LCRA and City of La Grange presented a $23,500 grant to Crosspoint Community Church, the only designated Red Cross shelter in Fayette County. The grant, coinciding with $6,500 in matching funds and in-kind donations from the church and its members, will help add a generator to ensure power remains available at the site, so that it can continue to safely house people affected by storms, wildfires or other emergencies.
The church’s fellowship hall sheltered over 150 people during Winter Storm Uri in 2021. The hall did not lose power during the event, but county and church leadership decided obtaining a backup power source would be valuable for instances when electrical service may be lost. The generator will be mounted on a trailer so it can also serve other facilities in the area when needed.
The grants are two of 44 awarded recently through the LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program. Applications for the next round of grants will open in July at https://lcra.org/cdpp.
