BLINN PLACES FOUR IN TOP 10 AT SOUTHERN STOCKMAN LIVESTOCK CONTEST

  

Blinn College’s Shelby Cones placed third overall in the sophomore division at the Southern Stockman Livestock Judging Contest in Lubbock, Texas.

Cones, from Stagecoach, Texas, was the top finisher for a Blinn livestock judging team that had four of the top 10 individuals at the contest held Saturday at Texas Tech University. Owen Seidenberger (Garden City) was fourth overall, Mason Wurzbach (Seguin) was seventh, and Grant Kubala (Schulenburg) was eighth.

Cones was first in reasons, fourth in sheep/goats, sixth in cattle, and seventh in placing. Seidenberger was first in cattle, second in placings, fifth in sheep/goats, and sixth in reasons. Wurzbach was fifth in cattle, seventh in sheep/goats, and ninth in reasons and placings. Kubala was eighth in placings and 10th in sheep/goats.

Other notable Blinn performances included:

  • Maddox Hartmann, third in sheep/goats and seventh in reasons
  • Lane Hogan, third in swine and seventh in reasons
  • Cole Monroe, fourth in swine
  • Riley Huser, eighth in swine
  • Maggie Brumnett, 10th in cattle

Blinn also had five of the top 10 individuals in the freshman division, led by Kenna Schram’s third-place finish. Paige Zimprich was sixth, Vance Aaron was eighth, Lauren Hyan was ninth, and Luke Domingue placed 10th.

Schram was first in sheep/goats, fourth in placings, fifth in reasons, and sixth in swine. Zimprich placed third in cattle, fourth in swine, and ninth in reasons. Aaron was ninth in cattle and placings, with Domingue fifth in cattle. Hyan placed sixth in cattle.

Jhett West was seventh in cattle and reasons, Ryleigh Gilfoil was fourth in reasons, Carolyn Turner placed sixth in reasons, Brady Newburn was eighth in placings, Jenna Lindig was 10th in cattle, and Weston Hendrix placed 10th in swine.

Blinn’s next competition will be at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky., on Nov. 18.

Blinn’s Agricultural Sciences Program has one of the most active extracurricular programs in the state, including livestock judging, Agriculture Club, wildlife, agriculture mechanics, and horticulture. Blinn offers agriculture classes on all its campuses, with the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex on the Brenham Campus serving as the program’s hub.
