Chief Deputy Randy Noviskie told the Fayette County Record that Deputy Joe Gonzales found the kangaroo around 5 p.m. Thursday on the side of Farek Loth Road, between Flatonia and Freyburg, while on the way to an unrelated call.  The kangaroo was wearing a red coat.

Sheriff’s Sergeant Ron Naumann responded to assist, but initially, the sheriff’s office was unsure of how to deal with the kangaroo.  The sheriff’s office called animal control, and they responded, but they were also uncertain of how to best handle the situation.

Noviskie told the Record that the sheriff’s office considered enlisting local cowboys to get the kangaroo into an enclosed trailer while they attempted to find the owner.  However, a neighbor passing by recognized the kangaroo and knew who it belonged to.

The sheriff’s office, animal control and a local veterinarian proceeded to walk the kangaroo along the fenceline until they made it to the owner’s driveway, where it was safely reunited with the owner.  The kangaroo, named Jack, had evidently escaped from a fenced yard where his owner kept him.

According to Noviskie, the sheriff’s office received numerous calls wondering if Jack may have been a different kangaroo, named Rowdy, who went missing in the Sealy area in December.  Rowdy’s location remains unknown.
