ELECTION 2025: BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD POSITION 6
With the start of early voting drawing closer for the May 3rd City of Brenham and Brenham ISD elections, KWHI is speaking with candidates appearing on local ballots.
Today’s preview is for Brenham School Board – Position 6, where Justin Colley and Mike Garner are running for the seat held by Natalie Lange, who did not seek re-election.
Justin Colley works as a regional sales manager at Brannon Industrial Group. He is involved with the Washington County Chamber of Commerce as a board member and Blue Blazer.
Colley believes his family’s active participation with Brenham ISD gives him a strong understanding of how the district operates and which areas can grow. He says there are many positive things happening within the district, and through his service, he hopes to be able to shine a brighter light on them.
Mike Garner is a director of projects in the oil and gas industry. Before moving to Brenham, he served as a member of the Giddings City Council and Giddings Volunteer Fire Department.
Garner says the most important role of a school board member is providing continuous oversight, making sure the district is doing its best to offer a great education. His points of emphasis include raising teacher compensation, responsible use of taxpayer funds, and keeping an open mind on how to enhance Brenham ISD’s programs and services.
Each candidate was asked questions about what they consider to be the primary responsibilities of a school trustee, some of the main issues facing Brenham ISD, and how they plan to work and collaborate with other members of the board.

I say this. And everyone can take this as they want to. I know one of these guys running for position 6. He’s a great man that we need in. The rest needs to be voted out. When you run high finances and not have been in the business of Brenham. That should tell you all something. He’s a Christian who wants better for this community. He’s not a man that walks with the same mentality of the people who are there now. We need a school system to work together for our children. Not the same thing that we been through. The schools are failing apparently apart. And we have to rebuild new schools. Think about it. Now I can’t say his name. But I tell you all one thing. Running a multi million dollar company. I think it’s time to start investing in us and our kids than the people who not done anything but talk. Up to y’all.
I know what I like to see back in the schools, is theology. I believe that every year each student should have at least one semester of theology. This is what this country is based on. The ones that don’t want it. Do not have to worry about taken it. But you think?? With God there. Problems leave. Just saying
Amen
Lonnie & 3reds,
School is not the place for “theology” to be taught. Exactly whose “theology” should be taught? Have we all come to a unified understanding as to who “God” is? This would be the main ministry of churches. Why not leave it there! A Church, Mosque, Synagogue, etc. is the proper place for “theology” to be taught. Our schools are already struggling to teach basic Math, English, History & Science to a variety of students from differing cultural, social & economic backgrounds in addition to our teachers being handed extra duties to become “daycare” and “discipline” centers for unruly students who disrupt entire classrooms. And I might add, that our hard working Superintendent, Principles, Vice Principles, Counselors, Teachers & Para-Professionals are not compensated enough for all of the “hats” they are mandated to wear in providing a quality education for all of the children of the district. If, as you say, our schools should be required to provide secular and Spiritual instruction to our students … what exactly should the “home” be responsible for?
