PURPLE HEART RECIPIENT MILITARY SURGEON TO SPEAK TO ROTARY CLUB

  

John Williams, M.D. will share his experiences as a military surgeon working in Iraq and Afghanistan and the circumstances around his receipt of the Purple Heart with the Rotary Club of Washington County Thursday at noon.

The public is invited to attend the event at Cannery Kitchen, 314 East Alamo Street in Brenham.  Event attendees who desire to eat lunch should check-in at the Rotary table just inside the dining hall.  Cost for the buffet lunch is $10.00.

Dr. Williams recently joined College Station Surgical Associates as a general surgeon. He attended Texas Christian University as an undergraduate and completed medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Dr. Williams performed his general surgery residency at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Ft. Gordon, Georgia. He is board certified in general surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

After finishing his residency, Dr. Williams completed three tours as a combat surgeon and received the Purple Heart in 2010. However, after many years of active military service and eight years of practicing medicine in an army hospital, Dr. Williams has transitioned to civilian life. Like his native Texan father who served his country as a career Army Officer before retiring to Ft. Hood, Dr. Williams decided to relocate his family back to Texas. When asked why he chose to care for patients in the College Station area, he said, “It was an easy choice to come home to Texas.”

Dr. Williams and his wife Chris have two children and reside in College Station.
