BURTON LADY PANTHERS SENSATIONAL SEASON COMES TO AN END AGAINST WEIMAR

BURTON 0
WEIMAR 6

Friday night, the Burton Lady Panthers Softball Team faced elimination as they took on Weimar in Game 2 of a best 2 out of 3 series. Weimar had already defeated Burton in Game 1 by a final score of 7-3 to take a 1-0 series lead.

The Burton defense would start things off on the right foot behind starting pitcher Lexi Broesche, as the defense would turn a 4-6-3 double play, by Paige Fritsch to Aerynn Huntsmann to Bailey Glaesmann, to end the top of the first. In the bottom of the first, Burton would threaten after back to back 2 out singles by Amaya Williams and Broesche, but both runners would end up stranded at 2nd and 3rd.

In the top of the third inning, the Lady Kats opened up the scoring as all 9 batters came to the plate for Weimar, crossing 5 runs on two hits, two errors, a walk and a hit batsman. Glaesmann would be called on in relief to get Burton out of the inning and would pitch the rest of the game. Weimar would score one more run in the fifth inning to cap off the 6-0 victory.

The Burton Lady Panthers were kept off balance for the second night in a row by Weimar starting pitcher Taylor Smith, who struck out 5 Lady Panthers in a complete game shut out. Weimar will look ahead to face Shiner next in the Regional Finals.

Burton’s season comes to an end after finishing first place in the district with a 12-0 district record and 26-6 overall on the season.

Amaya Williams 2-3

Lexi Broesche 1-3 SB
