The Cat Spring Volunteer Fire Department, Bellville Lions Club and City of Columbus are recent recipients of grant funding through the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) for community improvement projects.
The Cat Spring VFD received a $25,000 grant from the LCRA. Coinciding with $125,000 in matching funds from the department, the grant will go toward the construction of a four-bay addition to the main station to house emergency vehicles and equipment.
The Bellville Lions Club was granted $24,700 by the LCRA and City of Bellville. The club will use the grant and $10,400 of its own matching funds to replace the air conditioning system at Concordia Hall.
The City of Columbus was awarded a grant of $18,758 from the LCRA. That, combined with $4,800 in matching funds from the city, will upgrade recreational amenities at Columbus Community Park to provide three courts for pickleball players.
The community grants are among 45 awarded recently through LCRA’s Community Development Partnership Program. Applications for the next round of grants will be accepted in July at https://lcra.org/cdpp.
