After undergoing over $50 million in renovations over the past two years, the site re-opens tomorrow to unveil reimagined exhibits at the Star of the Republic Museum, enhanced storytelling in the Visitor Center, and authentic recreations of life in the old town of Washington through the Washington Townsite Experience.

Washington-on-the-Brazos Historical Foundation President Joel Romo and Administrator Ginger Moreland spoke during a recent edition of the KWHI Community Corner to share details about what visitors to the site can expect with the upgrades.  Romo said the additions make for an exciting journey back in time.

The grand re-opening kicks off with a ribbon cutting at the Visitor Center at 10 a.m., with activities taking place throughout the day.  The “Citizens of the Republic” program will take place until 4:30 p.m. at the new Washington Townsite, featuring interactive living history programs with a choose-your-own-adventure format.

Moreland said the townsite reproduces several noted landmarks that hold a special place in Texas history.

Additionally, historical interpreters will perform scenes at Independence Hall and at the newly created Sam Houston’s President’s Office and Congress Hall at Hatfield’s Exchange.

Admission to the re-opening is free.  Food vendors will be on site.
