WASHINGTON CO. ENACTING EMERGENCY BURN BAN
Washington County is instituting an emergency burn ban.
The burn ban will go into effect at midnight tomorrow (Tuesday) and comes as prolonged hot and dry conditions increase the threat of wildfire.
The order prohibits all outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of the county, except for burning activities that are related to public health and safety and are authorized by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
The emergency order will remain in effect until Tuesday, September 1st, but can be continued by the commissioners court.
More counties around the region are putting burn bans into place, including Grimes, Colorado and Lee counties.
As of today (Monday), there are 178 counties in Texas under a burn ban.
