INCREASED SALES TAX REBATES ACROSS WASHINGTON CO. FOR SEPT.

  

Washington County entities saw moderate to sizable growth for their sales and tax distributions reported for the month of September.

Washington County’s rebate for September came out to $434,568, up 6.97 percent from last September’s payment of $406,222.  So far this year, the county has received $3,763,784, up 2.58 percent from the year-to-date receipts of $3,668,969 at this point last year.

The City of Brenham’s September rebate is up 14.66 percent from year to year, coming in at $984,579 this month compared to $858,666 last September.  For 2026, the city has taken in $8,036,926, an increase of 2.21 percent from what it brought in through this time a year ago, at $7,862,861.

The City of Burton reported a collection of $12,199 in September, up 36.04 percent from last September’s rebate of $8,967.  The city is still down 6.95 percent for the year when compared to last, with $116,927 in rebates so far this year compared to $125,664 through September 2025.

Comptroller Don Huffines reported local sales tax allocations of $1.3 billion for the month of September, up 7.6 percent from last September and up 6.8 percent for the year so far. 

Allocations for September are based on sales made in July by businesses that report tax monthly.
