BRENHAM HIGH SCHOOL INDUCTS FIVE INTO THE CUB FOOTBALL HALL OF HONOR

Before a packed house in the Janis Sneed Banquet Room of the Blinn College Student Center, five former Brenham Cubs were inducted into the 2026 Football Hall of Honor.

Jason Jaster was the first of the inductees to take the stage. He was presented for induction by former Cub Assistant Coach and Hall of Honor Committee Member Jerry Newman.

Jaster talked about his start as a student manager for the Cub Football Team under former Head Coach Mark Elam. He later went on to make the Varsity squad as a sophomore, and he was a two-way starter on both the Brenham Offensive and Defensive Lines.

He rounded out his high school career by winning the prestigious Joe Routt Award.

Jaster also talked about his continued love of the Cub Football Team, and that while he is far removed from his playing days, he still has a passion for the game.

Jaster said that he goes up to Arlington for the State Football Championship Games at AT&T Stadium every year, and he turned to the current players in attendance, and said this year, he wants the Cubs to be one of those teams.

They next had a posthumous induction for Gary Ragston Jr., who was a 2006 graduate of Brenham High School. Ragston sadly passed way in 2013.

Former teammate and close friend Wes Mangan presented Ragston for induction into the Hall of Honor. He talked about what a great athlete and fierce competitor that Ragston was.

Ragston, who was known by his teammates as "Wayne", was a three-year starter at linebacker for the Cubs, who earned First Team All-State honors as a senior.

Ragston later proved himself to be a weapon on the offensive side of the ball as well, which led to him receiving playing time at wide receiver and running back.

His father, Gary Ragston Sr., and his sister, Lisa, were at the luncheon, and accepted the award on his behalf.

The third inductee was Tony Burnett, who played for the Cubs from 1978-1980. He was presented for induction by his brother, DeWayne Burnett, who is also a Hall of Honor member, and on the Hall of Honor Committee.

Burnett played under former Head Coach Charlie Matejowsky. He was a multi-faceted player that played wide receiver on offense, and also led the team in interceptions on defense, and in punt returns on special teams.

He would be recognized with First Team All District and All Brazos Valley honors.

Burnett later went on to play football for the Blinn Buccaneers and the Rice Owls.

Burnett thanked his family for being there, and specifically singled out his mother, who was such an important and influential part of his life.

He also recognized his former teammates in attendance and thanked them for being there on his special day.

The fourth inductee was Roderick Green. Green was presented for induction by former Brenham Cub Head Football Coach Glen West.

Green was a 2000 graduate of Brenham High School, and he played both ways for the Cub Football Team. He was a running back on offense and a nose tackle on defense, a feat that Coach West said showed how versatile an athlete Green was.

Green talked about the first time he met Coach West, and he even jokingly compared him to former WWE owner Vince McMahon with his size and swagger down the hallway.

He also talked about West being a positive influence on his life and that he wouldn't be where is today without his guidance.

Following Brenham High School, and college football at Blinn College and Central Missouri State, Green went on to play in the NFL for the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers.

The final inductee was Tim Cole. Cole was presented for induction by former Brenham Cub Assistant Football Coach/Head Baseball Coach Lanny Williams.

Cole, who is a 2012 graduate of Brenham High School, was a three-year starter for the Brenham defense as a linebacker. He later went on to win the District's Defensive MVP award and was named to the Texas Sports Writers Association All-State Team.

During his time, the Cubs posted an impressive 34-5 record.

Cole talked about being teammates with last year's Hall of Honor inductee Malcom Brown, and following him to the University of Texas to play for the Longhorns. Coach Williams shared a message from former Longhorn Head Coach Mack Brown saying that Cole was one of the smartest and toughest players he ever coached.

Brown added that Cole also had "a great heart and tremendous integrity."

In his acceptance speech, Cole thanked his teammates for everything they did for him back during their playing days, and his family for their support.
