CUB FOOTBALL CONTINUES THEIR ROLL WITH A 55-7 WIN OVER RUDDER
After a slow start to Friday night's game, the Brenham Cub Football Team continued their string of dominating victories by steamrolling the Rudder Rangers 55-7 at Merrill Green Stadium in Bryan.
Rudder scored their lone touchdown in the first quarter on an interception return for a touchdown by Mike Heard to make it 7-0 Rangers, and after that, it was all Brenham.
Bleu Cienega got the scoring started with a 32-yard field goal just six seconds into the second quarter, which made cut the lead to 7-3. For Cienega, he also reached the 200-point scoring mark for his high school career.
The Cubs were playing without RB Jakoby Dixon on offense, who sat out the game with a sore knee.
Ledrick Walker Jr. scored the first Brenham touchdown of the game on a 22-yard run with 9:28 to go until halftime, which put the Cubs in front 10-7.
Towards the end of the second quarter, C.J. Glover scored his first of two touchdowns on the night by taking it in from seven yards out with 1:07 left to increase the Brenham lead to 17-7.
The Cubs managed to get the ball back one more time and that allowed Roland Branch Jr. to find Nate Rau on a 35-yard touchdown pass with ten seconds left to make it 23-7 Brenham.
Cienega started the scoring in the third quarter with his second field goal of the night.
Branch would then find Rau for a 23-yard touchdown pass at the 8:37 mark to increase the Cubs' advantage to 33-7.
Glover followed with his second touchdown on a 3-yard run with 6:32 left in the third quarter, and Walker added his second on a 30-yard run, which put Brenham ahead 46-7.
In the fourth quarter, Brenham would get one more touchdown on a one-yard run by Branch, who had fumbled the ball, and then picked it up, and ran it in with 7:31 to go in the game, which made it 53-7
The Cubs would score one final time on a safety when a snap on a punt attempt sailed out of the back of the end zone.
Brenham ended up with 604 yards of total offense. This was the first time since the 2019 playoff game against Alice that the Cubs have crossed the 600-yard mark.
Glover had a huge night with 25 carries for 231 yards and two touchdowns. In addition to that, he threw a pass, and caught a pass.
The defense was stingy as well. They allowed Rudder only 86 yards of total offense, which included just three yards in the third quarter. They have also not allowed an opposing offensive TD in 14 quarters.
With the win, Brenham is now 7-0 on the season, and 2-0 in district. Next up, they will host the Waco Lions in the annual Homecoming Game this coming Friday night. KWHI will have live coverage beginning with the pregame at 6:30pm, followed by the kickoff at 7pm on 1280AM, 101.7FM, and KWHI.com.
