The Washington County Citizens on Patrol (COP) program has been recognized at the state level.
During the Texas Citizens on Patrol Association’s annual conference held October 25-28 in Baytown, Washington County COP was honored as the Texas Citizens on Patrol Organization of the Year.
Additionally, Washington County COP Coordinator Mark Pennybacker was named Coordinator of the Year.
The COP program operates under the authority of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office as a volunteer organization. Professionally trained volunteers patrol neighborhoods and roadways, assist with traffic control at events and accident scenes, provide security support, and assist with administrative duties.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office congratulates the COP program and Pennybacker on the achievements, saying in a statement, “These prestigious recognitions are a reflection of the dedication, commitment, and countless hours of service our COP volunteers give to Washington County.”
