GIDDINGS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT PARALYZED AFTER CAR ACCIDENT

  

An 18-year-old Giddings High School student has been paralyzed from the waist down after a car accident last Saturday night.ACCIDENT FEATURE

According to the Giddings Times & News, Angel Alvarado Jr. was a passenger in a car traveling at a high speed on a road with a series of hills known locally as “mole hills” or “rat hills”. The driver of the car, 18-year-old Allan Michael Mitschke, lost control and the car travelled off the road and hit a tree.

Mitschke and Alvarado were taken by ambulance to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin. The hospital reportedly told DPS that Alvarado was paralyzed from the waist down after breaking a vertebrae in his neck. Mitschke sustained a severe head injury.

The two other passengers in the car, 15-year-old James John Hassan and 18-year-old Sydney Davis Sharp, were taken to St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange with minor injuries.

According to DPS, neither the driver nor the passengers inside the car were wearing seatbelts.
