SENATOR KOLKHORST WEIGHS IN ON TEXAS BUDGET
With just under a month left in the 85th Texas Legislative session, lawmakers are busy at work in what Senator Lois Kolkhorst, R-Brenham, calls “crunch time”.
Kolkhorst was recently appointed to serve on the powerful budget conference committee, which is tasked with producing the final version of the state spending bill.
The budget is the only piece of legislation lawmakers must pass.
The conference committee is responsible for funding the state's priorities with a balanced budget that reconciles the differences that currently exist between the Senate and House proposals of $217.7 billion and $218.1 billion respectively.
Senator Kolkhorst says there are some big differences in the two proposals:
Senator Kolkhorst has previously served three times on the state's budget conference committee.
The 85th Texas legislative session meets for 140 days, ending on May 29th.
