BAYLOR SCOTT AND WHITE ANNOUNCES HIRINGS OF FULL-TIME OB/GYNS

Baylor Scott and White in Brenham will soon have three full-time OB/GYNs in its Labor and Delivery Department.

Hospital Board Chair Shirley Herring announced Thursday the hiring of two board-certified OB/GYNs: Dr. Vanessa Sarfoh and Dr. Christina Prendergast. Dr. Sarfoh will begin working at Baylor Scott and White in March, and Dr. Prendergast in August.

Dr. Sarfoh comes from The Center for Innovative GYN Care in Maryland. Herring said she has family that recently relocated to the Houston area, but she wanted a smaller environment to work in.  She earned two Bachelors of Science degrees in Biology and Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania, a Masters of Public Health from the University at Albany, and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Herring said more information will be announced about Dr. Prendergast closer to her start date, as she is still completing her residency training.

In addition, Herring said Dr. Aaron Campbell, who announced last January he would no longer deliver babies full-time, will soon be accepting OB patients and regularly delivering babies again. Dr. Campbell had continued to provide gynecology and backup labor and delivery services, while Baylor Scott and White searched for permanent OB/GYN support.

Herring said moving forward, Dr. Campbell, Dr. Sarfoh, and Dr. Prendergast will be Baylor Scott and White’s full team of OB/GYNs in the Brenham market.

Herring said Baylor Scott and White leadership has remained devoted to the search for permanent OB/GYN support, investing close to $500,000 working with recruiting firm Medicus and providing needed support. While it searched, the hospital provided board-certified OB/GYN backup and care for expectant mothers.

Herring said the hospital worked hard to find the right doctors who were the right fit for the community, and feels it has done just that. She said, while the search took a little longer than planned, the end result is the right one.
