Fans of pickleball have 6 new courts to play on in the city of Brenham.  The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board approved converting two existing tennis courts at Jackson Street Park to accommodate six new permanent pickleball courts to provide a place to play for the growing pickleball community. The project was funded by Brenham Community Development Corporation (BCDC) and included leveling and resurfacing the courts, painting, and installing permanent nets and posts.

What is pickleball? Pickleball is a family-friendly paddle sport combining elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. Two to four players use a wiffle-ball and composite paddles on a surface half the size of a tennis court with a slightly lower net.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new courts at Jackson Street Park is scheduled for next Thursday, January 24 at 4:30pm. The event will include a brief ceremony, followed by a demonstration by members of the Brenham Pickleball League.  The Brenham Pickleball League meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm and Sundays at 4pm for open play, weather permitting.  An intro to Pickleball clinic will be held on the first Sunday of February, March, and April at Jackson Street Park from 3pm-4pm. Pre-registration is available online at rectrac.cityofbrenham.org.
