BURTON TEEN KILLED IN ACCIDENT; WAS ASPIRING FIREFIGHTER

A Burton family is in mourning after an early-morning accident claimed the life of a 15-year old Burton High School Student.

Kelby Jasinski was killed and his father seriously injured in the early-morning accident, Thursday in Caldwell County, west of Bastrop.

According to the Department of Public Safety, Kelby was a passenger in his father’s truck, when it went off the road into a dry creek bed.

Jasinski was pronounced dead at the scene.  His father, 46-year old Billy Jasinski, is hospitalized with serious-but not life threatening-injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Kelby Jasinski was an avid supporter of firefighters in Burton and across the state.  He was voted mascot for the Texas State Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas for 2014-2015.  Among his duties as mascot, he raised money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Burton Fire Chief Ronnie Stanley said, "Firefighting runs in his family.  Kelby's father is a firefighter and his brother is also a firefighter.  He wanted nothing more than to be a firefighter."

  3. Kelby was the sweetest young man I have ever met. He was always smiling and just a bright joy to everyone around him. The community of Burton will mourn his death for a long time. He was a symbol from God that everything has a positive side you just have to look for it. He helped so many and expected nothing in return. It may not have been his time but God has just receive the best angel ever! Rest In Peace sweet Kelby! We all loved you dearly!
And for Billy hurry and get well soon. We need you back too!

  4. Prayers for the entire family. There was never a time that Kelby did not have a smile on his face. He was a remarkable young man.

  5. Kelby was an awesome young man! And he was the youngest so he never got to be a big brother, until he helped my little girl Leilani after school one day. She rode the wrong school bus home and without thinking Kelby walked her to his grandmas house until my wife was able to pick Leilani up. he was a big brother to his young neighbor. Thanks Kelby for being such a great person.
