DETOURS PLANNED THIS WEEKEND ON I-10 IN BROOKSHIRE

Drivers on I-10 in Brookshire will be detoured in both directions this weekend, as crews begin work on demolishing the bridge at FM 1489.

Starting Friday night at 9 p.m., I-10 in Brookshire will be closed eastbound and westbound for roughly half a mile.  It will be closed until 5 a.m. Monday morning.

Eastbound and westbound traffic will be detoured off the freeway at the FM 1489 exit, directed along the frontage road past FM 1489, and back onto the freeway.

According to Deidrea George, Public Information Officer of TxDOT’s Houston District, the closure is necessary for the complete demolition of the FM 1489 bridge, which is expected to be out until August.

George said the bridge will be completely rebuilt as part of TxDOT’s road widening project, where the existing two-lane roadway will be widened to three lanes each way.  She said this is the first major road closure for this project, which began in July 2017 and is anticipated for completion in the third quarter of 2022.

According to TxDOT’s online project tracker, the bridge project is estimated to cost just under $1.6 million.  The road widening project, according to George, is estimated at $141.5 million.

Drivers should prepare for long delays.  For more information, go to the online project tracker, or to https://traffic.houstontranstar.org/construction.
