EMACIATED HORSES REMOVED FROM PROPERTY IN WASHINGTON CO.
Animal rescue workers on Wednesday removed over a dozen emaciated horses from a property in Washington County.
Houston SPCA animal cruelty investigators and members of the equine team removed 17 horses from the property. In the process, they found multiple carcasses and scores of bones, including a skull of what appeared to be a young horse.
According to a release from the Houston SPCA, the owner’s family members reached out for assistance after they reported that the animals were not being taken care of properly.
Chief Animal Cruelty Investigator Adam Reynolds said it became clear that there was “suffering and neglect for a significant amount of time” once investigators located the bones. He said it is critical for owners to reach out when they need lifesaving assistance with their animals, and to not wait until it is too late.
The horses are now receiving veterinary care and proper nutrition, and will also be rehabilitated by the Houston SPCA’s equine and farm animal team.
The Houston SPCA did not say where in Washington County the horses were found, nor if any charges have been filed. The agency did not respond to a request for further information from KWHI.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was not involved in the case, according to Sheriff Otto Hanak.

So why haven’t they been charged with animal cruelty? I’ve seen horses from driving I Independence that are questionable. I know police drive by and see this to. Dogs with chains in Navasota to. Time to do something besides drive by.
it says Houston SCPA would not comment to where the location is and would not say IF charges were filed … not that they were not charged … just that the SCPA did not say if there were charges.
Iv called and called our sheriff’s office on starving horses on Fm 50 north of independence. All i get is there is no one that claims them.
I know who to call now.
