FIRST FRIDAY FARMERS MARKET COMING BACK TO DOWNTOWN BRENHAM

After two months of absence, the First Friday Farmer and Artisan Market is returning to downtown Brenham.

Right at two dozen vendors will set up shop Friday afternoon from 3 to 7 p.m. on Baylor Street, offering goods such as gourmet cooking ingredients, pastas, bread, homemade soups, cookies, popcorn, and even ice pops.

Community Services Coordinator Alexandra Dill said the return of the farmers market has both the shopping public and the vendors excited, but due to COVID-19, this market will look a little different than normal.

Dill said some rules have also changed for the market, including disallowing the sampling of food or the bringing of pets.  She said booths will also limit the number of shoppers per booth to two at a time, and there will be separately marked browsing areas and shopping areas.  Touching of merchandise without the intent to purchase will also be discouraged.

Dill said some of these procedures, namely the added hand sanitizing stations and social distancing requirements, may be put into place permanently for future markets.  She said other restrictions will likely be loosened in the future, but feels it is important to have them in place for the first market since March.

  1. Lonesome Dove, you are spot on!!! I only wish that your comment was a post on Facebook so that it can be shared.

  2. So to be clear, in the city of Brenham you can join others to buy food from a stranger’s booth, but you cannot join others in a park playground, or at the library, and city health inspectors make restaurants have a staff person standby and prepare your salad at a salad bar for you. You can gather with youths to hold up signs and protest but you cannot play little league on the fields behind where the protests take place. The Brenham aquatic center and pool is for the most part closed this summer but the new splash pad plans to open soon. You can stand next to someone in Brenham parks and sweat to chase a ball on the pickleball court, but you cannot stand next to someone and sweat to chase a basketball. And for social gatherings, in rural Washington County you can attend the Cotton Gin Festival in Burton but the Chappell Hill Fourth of July Parade is terminated.
