One-year-old Karson Cole was treated for minor injuries and released.

According to Doug Zweiner of the Prairie Hill-Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Department, the accident occurred around 8 p.m. in the 10000 block of FM 2621.

Zweiner said the vehicle traveled through a fence and rolled over several times.  It was found 50 yards off the road.

Update @ 11:55 a.m.: DPS Sergeant Jimmy Morgan said two children were ejected from the vehicle.

The youngest, a two-month-old child, as reported by Zweiner, was Life Flighted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.  The oldest, approximately two to three-years-old, was taken by ambulance to CHI St. Joseph’s in Bryan, along with two female adults.  According to Morgan, a one-year-old child suffered minor injuries, but was released.

Morgan said it does appear to troopers that worked the scene that there were passengers in the vehicle not properly secured.

Prairie Hill-Rocky Hill volunteer firefighters responded to the scene, along with the PHI helicopter, DPS, and Washington County EMS.

This is the second serious accident in a week on FM 2621, which is being used as a detour due to the closure on FM 50.  Last week, Rhead Robbins, a May graduate of Brenham High School, was killed in a rollover crash after he was ejected from his vehicle.

  1. If you are not familiar with those roads u don’t own what’s coming. Even if you are going the speed limit. I live in 50 and that detour is dangerous. I wont take that detour. I pray for the families and especially the babies.
2 wrecks and 2 deaths at this point. It’s a sad tragedy.

  2. Stay prayed up! God is still good and his mercy endures forever. Please drive safely and always wear your seatbelt. It’s sad when people are killed because they are rushing to get to Walmart or McDonald’s or even work. These places are still open and doing business after we’ve passed on. It’s not worth the sacrifice. Let’s all pray for these families, they are so young.

  3. The blame lies on not using seatbelts and driving to fast. However, some lighted signs that say “Dangerous Curves Ahead” might get people to slow down.

  4. If all of the accident victims mentioned in the comments here would’ve been properly restrained with seat belts and/or approved car seats (installed properly), and the drivers safely maintained control of their vehicles we wouldn’t be commenting here.

Please slow down, keep your vehicle under control, and use seat belts and approved child safety seats. No one should lose a loved one due to a preventable accidents and injuries. I know first hand the pain and sadness of losing loved ones due to preventable accidents and injuries. No one should ever have to experience the loss of loved ones this way.

  5. So sad to hear of this second awful tragedy car accident. Losing a friend Rhead Robbins last week and now this precious little infant child is so sad. We need prayers for this community. Please everyone be safe i also lost a classmate of 2015 Monica Gutierrez last night to another car accident that happened on F.M. 60 near Somerville,TX late last night Monday July 30. These last two weeks have been awful and sad to hear of these terrible car accidents. Please everyone be safe on the roads from now on and wear seat belts at all times.

  6. Between 2621 and other back roads used to get around the FM 50 closure there are few safe ways to get in and out of town. We have been PASSED numerous times on the back roads as well at very high speeds. It is getting out of hand and I hate to say it but I agree that this is not the end of the tragic accidents. Unfortunately, I’m sure many of these travelers are out of towners and won’t know the hazards as many here do.

  7. I think more warning signs on the road might help people with this detour. Two people have died in a little over a week, on the same detour needs to be addressed for the future safety of drivers
    .

    1. May need more warnings and barriers as school starts Aug 14 and ther will be alot more traffic at peak times

      1. No, people need to be more responsible! We can’t put up a sign for everything or make a law for everything. A warning here, a warning there.

  8. For the love of God, please use properly installed child restraints and seat belts for adults. So sad. Prayers for all involved including on scene officers and first responders.

  9. Plus the added road hazard of deer on 2621, especially the section between St. Matthew church and Rocky Creek.

    Echoing ww, please slow down!

  10. That’s exactly what the problem is! The next is SLOW THE HECK DOWN!!! ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT! !!

  11. This is the second accident in a week on FM 2621. With FM-50 closed, people are driving FM 2621 as the detour, who aren’t familiar with it. And FM 2621 has LOTS of curves that are dangerous at high speeds, unlike FM50. I’m not sure what can be done, but two in one week is not a good sign, for a 90 day closure.

Also, people… BUCKLE your kids up. These kids would not have been ejected if they were in car seats.

  12. I KNOW EVERYONE IS TRYING TO GET AROUND FM 50 DETOUR, ALOT OF FOLKS DONT KNOW 2621, I MEAN SLOW DOWN, ITS PEOPLE SPEEDING AND PASSING IN NO PASSING ZONES JUST IN HURRY TO GET THROUGH DETOUR ROUTE, I HATE TO SAY IT BUT MORE IS COMING BEFORE THEY GET DONE WITH BRIDGE ON FM 50.

    1. I live in Sandy Hill and I agree people have to SLOW DOWN. This is not a race track. People go too fast on FM 50 and think they can do the same on 2621. There are lots of deer on this road, cyclists, people pulling hay trailers and dangerous curves. Please buckle up and SLOW DOWN!!
