JOHN BRIEDEN LOOKS BACK ON TIME AS COUNTY JUDGE, FORWARD FOR WASHINGTON CO.

As 2018 comes to an end, so does John Brieden’s time as Washington County Judge.

Brieden has spent the last eight years as county judge, and will hand over that title to John Durrenberger tomorrow (Tuesday), at the annual swearing-in ceremony of county officials. Another change on the commissioners court will be Candace Bullock replacing longtime Precinct 2 Commissioner Luther Hueske.

Brieden said that right now, he just wants to step back, take a few breaths, and get a handle on things without overcommitting himself.

Brieden does not plan to be a common fixture at commissioners meetings from here on out, saying it wouldn’t be fair to the new county officials.

Brieden said he feels better about where the county stands now than it did eight years ago.

Brieden cited the county’s new IT software, plans for a new Road and Bridge Facility, and exchange of services with the city of Brenham to take over emergency dispatch operations, as big bullet points during his time as county judge.

Brieden said there are other projects the county is moving forward with, such as a potential new communications facility. However, many of these are “on the horizon”, and will be pursued by new leaders.
