LEAH COOK SEEKING ELECTION TO BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL

The first non-incumbent has announced her candidacy in May’s general election for the Brenham City Council.

Leah Cook

Leah Cook has filed for the position of At-Large Position Six Councilmember.  The position is currently held by Susan Cantey, who has not announced whether she will seek re-election.

A Brenham native, Cook has worked with her husband, Corey, and cousin, Matt Lowery, at LJ’s BBQ for the past five years.  Prior to this, she worked eight years at the Brenham State Supported Living Center in the Human Resources department, where she served on several committees.

Cook says she has a lot of pride in Brenham, and wants to have a say in its future.

Cook is also an active member in the Young Professionals Organization of Washington County, and recently worked with city employees to organize the “Brenham: Better Together” community picnic to promote unity throughout the city.

Cook wants to use her business experience to help other local small businesses succeed.

Leah and Corey have a son, Carter, who attends Brenham Elementary School.  She and her family are members of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she serves on the Social Concerns Committee.

As of today (Wednesday), incumbents Clint Kolby and Keith Herring are the only others to have filed for election to the council.

The last day to file for a spot on the ballot is Friday, February 12th, while the last day to file as a write-in candidate is Tuesday, February 16th.  Election Day is Saturday, May 1st.

  1. So Glad to hear this, We need people on our city council that actually know what it take to keep a Business running, We need someone who has actually run a Business successfully, Hope to see more people step forward to run for City Council positions. I Myself do not have the knowledge Or qualifications to be a Council member, But I admire anyone who cares enough for their town and community to give up their personal life and their time to help make Brenham a Better place to live, work and raise a family. Best of Luck to Mrs. Cook .
