LEE CO. FAIR POSTPONED DUE TO COVID-19

The Lee County Fair, initially set for May 14 through the 16th in Giddings, has been postponed due to worries about COVID-19.

A statement Monday from the Lee County Fair Board of Directors says the decision was made after careful consideration and consultation with local and state authorities regarding the health and safety of the community.

The board says, following increased and overwhelming concerns about the virus and its resulting economic impact, it feels this is the best way to proceed during “such an unprecedented situation”.  According to the board’s statement, while it is disappointed it cannot hold the fair as normally scheduled, it feels this is the right decision based on the information available today.

The board says it will be reaching out directly to scholarship recipients, sponsors, volunteers, and participants with information about an alternate weekend for the fair later this summer.  It plans to have an event of some type, which would include regularly scheduled fair events such as the car show, Charcoal Challenge barbecue cook-off, and entertainment.
