PARKER NAMED NEW BRENHAM POLICE CHIEF

Chief Ron Parker

The City of Brenham has announced the next police chief.

Ron Parker will take over the position, March 2nd.

City officials say Parker has a vast array of knowledge and skills, having spent his time most recently as Chief of Police for the City of La Porte.

He currently serves as an assessor for Texas Police Chiefs Association's Recognition Program, is a member of the National Domestic Preparedness Coalition, sits on the advisory board for the Criminal Justice Department at San Jacinto College, and is an adjunct professor in Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University.

Parker is also a veteran of the United States Army National Guard where he served in Field Artillery.

Parker is married to his wife of 39 years, Debra. They have two adult children, a son and daughter, and four grandchildren.

City Manager, James Fisher said, “The City of Brenham is very excited to have a man of Ron Parker’s caliber, integrity and professionalism to serve as our Chief of Police. He has served the community of La Porte for 35 years and is well respected by colleagues, employees and community members. I believe Chief Parker will be a tremendous asset to our community and I am looking forward to working with him as he becomes a member of the City organization.”

This position became vacant after Allwin Barrow’s recent retirement.

  1. Welcome to Brenham Parkers!! I hope you will enjoy our small town and not miss the amenities of big city life. Be sure to visit the Unity Theater and the productions at the O’Donnell Center. The chamber of commerce website is a great resource for things to do in and around Brenham. I hope you will grow to love Brenham as much as those that have lived here all our lives do.

  2. I am very excited to be selected as the next chief of police for the City of Brenham! I understand fully that the decision for an “outsider” to be the next chief is not welcomed by all. I also understand that I will need to earn the respect and acceptance of all citizens of Brenham, as well as the men and women of BPD. My wife, Debbie, and I, are looking forward to spending the rest of our lives in Brenham. We have already purchased land and are having a home built, inside the city limits. We have visited Brenham for many years and after living in the Houston metropolitan area, Brenham offers many opportunities and excitement for us as a couple that are attractive .

I have been involved in law enforcement and public safety for over 35 years. I have worked my way up through the ranks having served in patrol, detectives, and as a sergeant, lieutenant, assistant chief and finally as chief. As an assistant chief, I managed a budget of over $5.3 million and more than 50 personnel. As a chief, I managed a budget of over $13.7 million and 110 personnel, to include a jail, dispatch/911, patrol, support services, detectives, community relations, animal control, and other divisions.

I consider myself blessed to be serving the citizens of Brenham. BPD is one of the finest and most professional law enforcement agencies in the state! I have had the opportunity to meet many of the staff there, who are all exceptional public servants and professionals. We have also met with many of the citizens and business people, having established banking there already, and other business preparing for our move to Brenham. We look forward to assimilating in to the community, serving as volunteers in various organizations, and serving the citizens. All I ask is that the community continue to support your men and women of BPD, they are there to improve the quality of life for all citizens of Brenham! Public safety is a cooperative effort and ultimately must involve all stakeholders of a community, to include police, faith based organizations, education, businesses, citizens, etc. It will be my job to make certain our men and women serving have all the tools and resources, as well as the support they need, to achieve their mission as your police department. In advance, I want to encourage all of our citizens to participate and support us in that endeavor, and again, I will do all I can to earn your trust! Thank you all.

  3. Your lucky to acquire such an outstanding man. Ron Parker is the definition of professionalism in Law Enforcement. I served with him in La Porte and would serve with him again if you could pry me out of retirement. Congratulations Brenham, excellent choice. Congratulations Chief Parker, I know you’ll enjoy the peace and quiet that Brenham’s smaller population will offer…not to mention a few thousand less 18 wheeler’s to deal with on a daily basis.

  4. We will certainly miss Chief Parker. His door is always open and he treats everyone with the utmost respect. He will be a great asset for your city.
We’re heartbroken we’re losing him but can understand why he wants to go to the great city of Brenham.
Y’all welcome him with open arms and he’ll return the thank you with open arms. Just a good ‘ol country boy.

  5. Chief Parker is an awesome man! La Porte will truly miss him. Congratulations Brenham!!!

  6. He was only Police Chief in La Porte less than 18 months. Is this another hire that doesn’t last??

    1. I think he’ll be there till retirement. Ron is a stand-up, honest and professional man that will serve Brenham well. The residents are very lucky to have Ron Parker as their Chief.

    2. He served at LaPorte for many years, including many as assistant chief! He was only recently made Chief of Police there. He’s been an officer there as long as I ca remember! And a good one!
