ROBBIE GAIL CHARETTE DEFENSE ATTORNEY RELEASES STATEMENT

In anticipation of an indictment by the Washington County Grand Jury, an attorney for Brenham lawyer Robbie Gail Charette has issued a press release answering charges against his client.

The Washington County Grand Jury met yesterday (Tuesday), and the District Clerk’s office is working on preparing indictments handed down. Houston Attorney Lewis Thomas this (Tuesday) morning issued a statement on behalf of Robbie Gail Charette, who has been under investigation for possible campaign finance violations.

The statement reads:  “Robbie Gail Charette vigorously denies the charges against her. Ms. Charette ran an honest campaign for judge. Ms. Charette completely self-funded her campaign without contributions from any outside person or organization. This charge is a result of a disturbing trend of criminalization of politics, and Ms. Charette believes the truth will eventually prevail in this matter. Ms. Charette will plead Not Guilty to all charges, and she looks forward to fully presenting her case at trial. Ms. Charette is represented in this matter by the law firm of Lewis Thomas Law PC.”

In March, Charette lost in her bid to unseat Washington County Court at Law Judge Eric Berg in the Republican Primary.  Before the election, Austin County District Attorney Travis Koehn was appointed as a special prosecutor to investigate claims of campaign finance violations against her.  The Texas Rangers were also involved in the investigation.  KWHI expects to receive a list of people indicted by the Grand Jury today (Wednesday) or tomorrow (Thursday).

  1. I support Mrs Charette. I believe that she was target because she ran against Mr Berg.

  2. Dirty politics in Brenham again. “Ms. Charette completely self-funded her campaign without contributions from any outside person or organization.” I believe that to be true, what other candidate gave $750,000 to the city of Brenham for a park? These “good old boys” must be jealous. Thank you again Ms. Charette.

    1. The fact is she set herself up for this investigation by claiming she didnt take “ANY” donations and then wouldn’t turn over any expenditure reports. All they need is to prove one donor gave her money or paid for things in her campaign and she is in violation. Just because you use your money (which i dont believe and neither does just about anyone else) you still have to show how you paid for said campaign. Sounds like a grand jury thinks there is enough evidence of illegal behavior for indictment

    2. Does the fact that she inherited a very large sum of money make her a better candidate than others than others who may work to pay their bills and have less to give away?
