WASHINGTON CO. ONE OF TWO POTENTIAL SITES FOR NEW MANUFACTURING DEVELOPMENT

Washington County could potentially become the site for new manufacturing development in the near future.

During Brenham City Council Thursday, Economic Development Director Susan Cates presented her fourth quarter economic development report. In it, she mentioned Project Silver Crayon, and while not discussing much during session, she said the project’s final landing destination is between Washington County and a site in Louisiana.

Cates elaborated today (Friday) on the project, saying the city began work on it in January.  She said the company looking to potentially locate to the county manufactures products in the oil and gas industry.

Cates said the company is looking to make a $20 million investment into a community for a “large acreage project”.

According to Cates, the site would have multiple buildings totaling approximately 200,000 square feet. She said the first phase of rollout would provide for roughly 30 new jobs, and additional expansion phases are anticipated.

Cates said abatements and incentives are being negotiated. She added that, if the project lands in Washington County, it would likely set up on county land, not in the City of Brenham.

Cates said there is not a set timeline for when the company will make its final decision, but added that the company is doing due diligence in gathering information from Texas and Louisiana. She said she expects a final decision on the project’s location in the first quarter of 2020.
